Pier-Side Activities
The Port of Astoria understands some cruise passengers are mobility impaired, or simply may not desire to venture beyond the cruise pier. To accommodate those passengers, the Port of Astoria and the greater Astoria community are committed to providing a “taste of Astoria” - right on the pier! These activities do not conflict with scheduled shore excursions, which we understand are essential to cruise business.
Welcoming
On the ship’s first arrival in our port, Port officials and local government representatives exchange plaques and gifts with the ship’s Captain in an official ceremony.
Pier-Side Throughout the Day
Astoria Sunday Market coordinates vendors at the Port during visits by Cruise Ships. A variety of art, jewelry, and souvenir crafts are made by the representing vendor so cruise passengers are meeting regional artists and craftspeople while shopping. The Pier offers a beautiful backdrop for the vendors as they stroll through the Market.
Friendliest Port!
Clatsop Cruise Hosts is a nonprofit group of more than 70 volunteers who, dressed in distinctive navy blue vests and jackets, greet passengers upon arrival, give them directions to navigate town, and provide helpful tips and historical information at locations throughout downtown Astoria, the Columbia River Maritime Museum, and along the Riverwalk. Their goal is to ensure every passenger feels welcome in our community.
Bus Services
We have not forgotten passengers who are not booking shore excursions, or the cruise ship crews. For their convenience, coach service is available, departing approximately every 30 minutes while the ship is in port. Passenger shuttle buses transport riders from the pier to downtown Astoria. All-day passes are available for $15–$20, $10 for youth ages 4–15, and free for children 3 and under.
As an alternative option, you may also ride the historic Trolley “Old 300” along the scenic Astoria Riverfront. Fares are $1 per boarding or $2 for an all-day pass. The average round trip is one hour. Please note that trolley operations are weather-dependent. Crew shuttle tickets to shopping areas are $10 for an all-day pass. There is no sales tax in Oregon.
