Joey Gochis

Joey has been a steady presence at the Port since November 2020, serving as a Boatyard Operator and keeping daily operations running smoothly. He oversees vessel haul‑out and setting, pressure washing, and BMP enforcement, while expertly operating forklifts, manlifts, and cranes.
His hands‑on maritime experience spans a decade in the U.S. Coast Guard, complemented by emergency medical training and operational expertise from the U.S. Army Reserve. Educated through the U.S. Army Combat Medical School and the U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Enforcement School, with additional coursework at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Joey also holds certifications on both an 88‑ton mobile gantry crane and a 50‑ton mobile telescopic crane, capabilities that underscore his technical range and dedication to safe, efficient work. He enjoys the variety his role brings, noting that no boat or client is the same and that each day offers new challenges, all within a workplace that supports a strong work/life balance.
Beyond the yard, Joey has been married to Christine for more than 20 years and is a proud dad of three, one attending OIT and two in high school. A fan of history podcasts and an active deacon at his church, he finds fulfillment in helping others and supporting those searching for God. When asked about his proudest achievement, Joey says he is most proud of his family and the effort he and his wife have put into raising their children. He says, “Especially my wife—she’s amazing, and I’m pretty proud of myself for tricking her to spend this life with me.”
