FBO Building Improvements Project Moves Forward

The Port of Astoria issued an invitation to bid for general contractor services to complete interior improvements within the FBO building in December 2025. The improvements include reconfiguring and remodeling the kitchen and bathrooms, along with installing a new ADA‑compliant wheelchair ramp on the west side of the building.

To streamline the process and reduce costs, the Commission approved a Findings of Fact in August 2025, granting an exemption from the traditional design-bid-build method. This allowed the Port to directly request bid-build proposals, an approach better suited to the project’s limited scope and available grant funding.

On February 17, 2026, the Commission awarded the FBO Building Improvements contract to Helligso Construction Co. for an estimated $216,144. Of this amount, $143,775 will be funded through a grant from the Oregon Department of Aviation. Completion is anticipated by June 1, 2026, with the renovated FBO ready for the Airport Open House and Fly-In in August.
