Boatyard Assistant I

Position Summary: The Boatyard Assistant I supports the daily operations of the Port of Astoria Boatyard by performing maintenance, repair tasks, customer service, and haul-out operations. This position works under the direct supervision of the Boatyard Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1.       Assist with haul-outs, blocking boats, hull washing, vessel dismantling, and routine maintenance within the Boatyard.

2.       Maintain Port equipment and facilities by performing cleaning, minor repairs, painting, surface preparation, and general upkeep.

3.       Operate various equipment, including pressure washers, forklifts, manlifts, scissor lifts, mowing equipment, chainsaws, and electric hand tools.

4.       Perform housekeeping duties to ensure a clean and organized work environment.

5.       Respond promptly and safely to incidents or operational needs.

6.       Accurately perform data entry and administrative tasks as assigned.

7.       Provide accurate information regarding rates, fees, and policies to customers.

8.       Attend meetings as required.

9.       Adhere to all Port safety policies and promptly report any hazards.

10.   Perform other duties as assigned by the Boatyard Manager.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have prior experience performing physically demanding tasks in a fast-paced environment. A strong work ethic, attention to safety, and the ability to follow instructions while working independently or as part of a team are essential, as well as the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with customers, supervisors, and Port staff. Quick responses to hazards and adaptability between indoor and outdoor tasks are essential.

Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with marine operations, environmental regulations, and safety practices applicable to the Port of Astoria; experience in performing minor repairs and maintenance on buildings and grounds, with an emphasis on Boatyard operations; ability to operate the equipment and office machines relevant to the role.

Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license is required. Additional licenses or certifications may be required as necessary.

Pay & Benefits: Pay $20.58 - $25.18/hour DOE. This is a union position, classified as non-exempt, hourly, and includes health and retirement benefits, paid vacation, and sick leave.
