City of Astoria, Clatsop County, and Port of Astoria leadership provide update to Astoria’s upcoming cruise ship season and COVID-19
Joint Statement of Astoria Mayor Bruce Jones, Clatsop County Commission Chair Kathleen Sullivan, and Port of Astoria Executive Director Will Isom

Astoria, OR – March 12, 2020 – In order to focus on our priority of public health and safety for our residents, and in response to Governor Brown’s statewide policy on public gatherings, cruise travel warnings from the CDC, concerns from local jurisdictions in Clatsop County, and the testimony of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci today that ‘things will get worse than they are right now,’ we have jointly agreed to cancel all visits of oceangoing cruise ships through April 10, 2020.

Additionally, in the absence of specific policy on cruise ships from higher authority, we have agreed to consider cruise ships as public gatherings and will cancel all visits of cruise ship visits with greater than 250 persons aboard as long as the State prohibitions remains in place.

We will continue to monitor the changing situation and make collaborative decisions focusing on our top priority of public health.
