Working within the framework of the stated mission and goals of the Port of Astoria, the Port Commission adopted a Central Waterfront Master Plan in 2001. Near the West Basin, in the Marina District, the port is making progress toward that goal in a variety of ways. 

The development of a conference center; the lease of property for the construction of hotels, slated for completion in 2004, and the redevelopment of some underutilized property on the edge of the West Basin extending east approximately to the Astoria-Megler Bridge offer opportunities for marine-related and commercial enterprises.
