To determine feasibility of a Haul-Out/Boatyard facility at its Pier 3 location, the Port of Astoria commissioned a comprehensive market study in 1999. The study concluded the need for a haul-out facility. The port acted upon that recommendation, and recently developed this facility.
The market study indicated an increase in the pleasure boating industry has created a demand for haul-out, marine service and related services in the local and semi-local area. The study further determined that the co-location of a variety of marine service businesses near the haul-out facility would generate a greater level of business for all participants.
Based on this information, and in concert with the port's Central Waterfront Master Plan, the following types of businesses would be a desirable addition to the Haul-Out/Boatyard facility:
- Yacht Manufacturing
- Marine Trades (Welding, electrical, electronics, metal fabricators, fiberglass workers & riggers, heating and cooling, diesel & gas mechanics, etc.)
- Grocery Supply
- Boat Repair Businesses
- Sail Making
- Environmentally Approved Hull Painting and Coating Facilities
