AIRPORT INDUSTRIAL PARK TAKES NEXT STEP TOWARD DEVELOPMENT-READY STATUS
The expansion of LEKTRO, a manufacturer of electric towbarless tugs used in the aviation industry located at the Astoria Regional Airport, provided for adequate water supply at the airport. The new 18" water line provides the volume required for fire suppression, and opens the door for development at the Airport Industrial Park. The Port also received approval to utilize its wetlands mitigation bank to fill wetlands – a requirement for continued development. The site will now be included on the Governor’s “shovel ready” industrial site list, available to potential developers.
The Port of Astoria’s Airport Industrial Park is a 45-acre site adjacent to the Astoria Regional Airport. Leasable land or build-to-suit options are available for light to medium industrial development or airfreight distribution warehouse capacity. Twice-daily United Parcel Service air freight service, and lease rates at substantially below those of metropolitan areas make this an ideal location for many types of commercial or industrial businesses.

FUEL SYSTEM ENHANCEMENT
New fuel tanks and a fueling system with self-service capability are installed and operating 24/7 at the Astoria Regional Airport. Truck service will continue to be provided.
AIRPORT MASTER PLAN
The Port of Astoria commission has established a committee, comprised of Clatsop County citizens, for the purpose of updating its Airport Master Plan. The plan update will include an upgrade to the Airport Layout Plan (ALP). The ALP includes the physical components of the airport, such as approach and runway protection areas, land use, and terminal area plans.
The purpose of a Master Plan is to assist the Port of Astoria Commission in anticipating the future needs and growth at the airport. Plan completion is expected by Fall 2006.
The previous Master Plan was developed in 1992, and many of the projects outlined in it have been completed. An investment of over $9 million at the Astoria Regional Airport has produced improvements such as the asphalt overlay of all the airport’s runways and taxiways, the addition of taxiway lighting, new airport signage, crack sealing of tarmac areas to improve the longevity of the airport’s runways and taxiways. Each of the runways has improved vertical descent landing instruments for increased pilot safety.
T-HANGAR CONSTRUCTION
Additional T-hangars are in the works to meet the demands of aircraft owners awaiting indoor aircraft storage. The Port received a fill permit from the Oregon Division of State Lands, and approval to utilize the Port’s wetlands mitigation bank for this purpose. Underway is ground preparation for development of two additional T-hangar buildings. Currently four existing hangars are operating at capacity with a waiting list. Buildings can house up to a dozen aircraft, depending onthe final building configuration. Development of the buildings is dependent on securing funding.
Parties interested in having their names added to the T-Hangar waiting list should contact interim director Ron Larsen, at (503) 325-4521, or cell phone (503) 791-7732.
In addition, two major aircraft manufacturers have recently used the airport tarmac/facilities as the locale for development of advertising vehicles. Pictured is a Beechcraft Hawker recently flown in for a photo shoot.
